The Death Of A Machine (& an offer)

The image ‘Absence’ is a personal favourite of mine that I took back in 2006.
After endless experimenting and proofing I found the best way to print ‘Absence’ was on a machine PCL had, Colex 30″ processor, which made what they called ‘True Black And White Prints’ using the digital process, printing on to Ilford RC Digital Matte paper. This process really supports the image, delicate dark tones merging to intense black. The white has an alabaster crispness that brings out the lace, and the deep pearl of the paper gives the overall image a really nice depth.
So, about a year ago, PCL go and decommission the machine, dismantle and scrap it. Apparently they needed the space. And apparently, it was the only machine of its kind around for miles, the only one in New Zealand at least. Luckily I got a few days’ notice and managed to get 7 more prints made. I already had a couple mounted on Dibond and framed, so that’s an edition of just 9. Definitely 9.
Mounted and framed the retail price is NZ$1850. However, if anyone would like one of these 7 prints I’ve made, the first couple (No.s 3 & 4) I can sell, unmounted, unframed and rolled up, for NZ$495.
Postage included, and yes, I can send anywhere. And please be aware, Jpegs do not do most of my work justice, least of all Absence. The Colex brings out a faint background you can’t see with the jpeg.
I’ve made a large version of it, at AO size.. These I made using a different process, as the Colex wouldn’t print up this size, only up to A1. No 2 of this edition of 10 is going to feature in my upcoming exhibition The Floating. This will be the first time ‘Absence’ has been in an exhibition. See you there!
